Kendrick Lamar Wins Best Male Hip Hop Artist At BET Awards, Honors Prodigy

Mobb Deep's Prodigy is now gone. But, hip hop will never make him forgotten.

During the BET Awards Sunday (June 25) night, the surviving member of Mobb Deep, Havoc, as well as Lil Kim paid tribute to the fallen lyricist before they introduced the nominees of Best Male Hip Hop Artists. "This week, hip-hop suffered a painful loss, with the sudden passing of our brother, Prodigy," Lil Kim said. "His pen painted vivid pictures of street life. He made what was ugly sound beautiful." Havoc added: "For over 20 years, he and I went through it all, and seen it all," Havoc added. "I'm going to miss my dude. This loss is painful. But the lyrical legacy he left us will impact the culture forever. Rest in peace, Prodigy. My brother."

When K. Dot won the Best Male Hip Hop Artist award, he also honored the late MC. The Cali rapper revealed that it was Prodigy who inspired him to create his very first mixtape at age 16 entitled Y.H.N.I.C. Kenny now wants to remember the deceased Mobb Deep member by continuing to be influenced by him and make timeless music, as he did.

Shoutout to Kendrick Lamar for his big win. RIP to Prodigy.
