NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) - A Confederate statue has been vandalized in Nashville's Centennial Park.
Graffiti on the statue says, "They were racists" in red paint. Metro Police Capt. Chris Taylor said it happened sometime overnight Sunday.
The statue is in remembrance of Confederate soldiers and was erected in 1909.
Taylor said it's certainly not the first time vandalism has occurred at a Metro Park, but it's the first time in seven or eight years that it has been political in nature. The paint will be power washed off.
Taylor said Metro Police and Metro Park have an extensive video camera system and both agencies will be reviewing video.
