Gucci Mane has admitted he regrets performing the “Pookie” diss during his Verzuz with Jeezy. The music battle happened in 2020, 15 years after the Southern rappers began feuding. Viewers expected the program to turn up but were stunned when Gucci played "The Truth," a blistering diss that referenced Henry "Pookie Loc" Lee Clark III. “I didn’t know when I got on the stage that was gonna happen. [That] I was gonna say that” Gucci told Elliott Wilson and Brian “B. Dot” Miller at the 2022 Revolt Summit. “I ain’t like, ‘I’m bringing negative energy.’ It just really came out … I mean what I say, I say what I mean. So my thing was, if I was bad enough to say it in the studio, I’m bad enough to say it in your face.” Gucci went on to say he didn’t like performing the song and wished he hadn’t said what he said. Jeezy ultimately took the high road, explaining he had asked Gucci to do the Verzuz for the sake of the culture.
