The release of Brittney Griner is not a priority for the Kremlin. An aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin made the remark Sunday, despite calls from President Joe Biden to free the WNBA star. Griner was sentenced to nine years in Russian prison on drug charges, but the U.S. continues to advocate for her release, saying her imprisonment is unjust. Bill Richardson, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, traveled to Russia to advocate for Griner’s release, and previously said she could be home by the end of the year.
