Brittney Griner Spends 32nd Birthday in Russian Prison

While awaiting an appeal of her nine-year sentence for drug possession Brittney Griner celebrated her 32nd birthday in a Russian prison. According to her attorneys, the WNBA player has been exceptionally down lately. On Tuesday, October 18, they spent a portion of her birthday with her. The appeal hearing for Griner is set for October 25. Her attorneys believe that the appeal will result in a less sentence even if it is unlikely to overturn her conviction. Griner was handed a harsher term than most Russians with comparable offenses after being found guilty on August 4 in a quick decision. The 6-foot-9 center was detained on February 17, one week before Russia invaded Ukraine at a Russian airport. The police stated they discovered vape canisters with cannabis oil in Griner's luggage.
