On Wednesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) revealed that Congress plans to stop using taxpayer dollars to settle sexual harassment claims against lawmakers.
During a radio appearance on WISN, Ryan said congressional committees are currently working on a βwholesale reform packageβ regarding sexual misconduct procedures. βThat's among the things we're working on right now,β he said.
The former vice presidential nominee added that he thought lawmakers using taxpayer dollars to settle harassment claims is βindefensible.β
Over the past few weeks, multiple lawmakers, including Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), and Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), announced their resignations amid sexual misconduct allegations.
