July 4th 1776 in Phila.. The U.S. of A declared its independence from Great Britain. The same US that would go on later making laws that recognized black people as 3/5 of a person. The same country that while claiming and celebrating is newly found independence would keep Black Americans in shackles for another 100 years and beyond...
June 19th marks the day that BLACKS became free in this country (kinda) Yes June 19th 1865. See some good folks had went down to TX to let the slaves know they were finally free.. the war was over and what not...keep in mind this was 2 year AFTER "Honest Abes" document was signed making slaves free...
So I guess in 1776 all americans were free besides the black ones...
