9-Year-Old Boy Charged With Attempted Murder In Stabbing of Younger Sister

9-year-old Florida boy stabs 5-year-old sister

A 9-year-old boy in Ocala, Florida has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree after allegedly using a kitchen knife to stab his younger sister, all while saying, "die, die, die."

According to the Ocala Police Department, the stabbing occurred Monday afternoon at the Berkeley Pointe Apartments while the two siblings were playing in his room. Their mother slipped outside to check the mail and get some candy for the kids from a neighbor. When the mother returned, she found her 9-year-old son stabbing his 5-year-old sister with a large kitchen knife.

In affidavit about the incident, police wrote the 9-year-old had "grabbed his sister by the back of her neck" while she was attempting to show him something and "began stabbing her" while saying "Die, die, die."

"An emergency, emergency," the mother can be heard telling a 911 dispatcher in audio obtained by WESH. "My daughter, my son stabbed my daughter."

“I need you to tell me what happened, okay?” the dispatcher told the children’s mother.

“Okay, so I went to check the mail, I came back, and by the time I came back from the mail, he was stabbing her,” she said.

The 5-year-old girl was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she was treated for multiple stab wounds. The 5-year-old is expected to survive the attack.

In an affidavit about the incident, a police detective wrote he spotted a large kitchen knife in the hallway that appeared to have blood on the blade as well as blood in the child's room and leading out into the hallway.

When the boy was asked why he did it, the 9-year-old told police he'd been thinking about killing his sister for the past two days and that he couldn't get the thought out of his mind. He said after his mother left, he went to the kitchen, retrieved a knife, and then hid it behind his back as he approached his sister.

A judge has ordered a psychological evaluation for the 9-year-old boy, who is currently being held in juvenile detention.

The 9-year-old boy is due back in court next week.
