How To Get Involved With Nashville's #CommunityOversightNow Movement!

posted by Dolewite -

MNPD just shot and killed Daniel Hambrick, a 25-year-old black man. White MNPD officer Andrew Delke (also 25) shot him at 17th and Jo Johnston in North Nashville. Witnesses are saying he ran from his vehicle and the cops shot him 4 times, and then they turned his body over and handcuffed him and didn’t try to revive him (contrary to what the TBI spokesperson said). He appeared to already be dead when the ambulance came. MNPD immediately posted a photo of a gun Daniel was allegedly carrying...while *running away* (according to what sounds like many witnesses in the @scoopnashville video). MNPD posted the photo seemingly before TBI ever arrived. Make no mistake: by doing so they are trying to direct the narrative to imply that this young man was a dangerous criminal who posed a threat who therefore deserved to die. Don’t believe it. THIS is why we need a Community Oversight Board: to provide community accountability and some level of control over an institution that has proven to black, brown, and poor people for decades (centuries) that they can’t be trusted to keep us all safe like we all deserve to be safe. #DanielHambrick #CommunityOversightNow (Thanks to @agkrinks for posting these details earlier)

I was out of town when the news of Daniel Hambrick broke and he is yet another unfortunate example of how badly Nashville needs a Community Oversight Board. Here's how to get involved to insure that this much needed asset will be on the ballot November 6th:
