CODE RED: Strong cold wind, snow expected with temperatures dropping

FOX 17 News is in a Code Red Weather Alert for the chance of a rain and snow mix late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, followed by frigid temperatures.

SkyWatch17 Meteorologist Justin Chambers reports a strong cold north wind is expected to develop Monday afternoon as the rain moves in.+

Changeover to snow should happen quickly from northwest to southeast between 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Flakes will be flying and the temperatures will be dropping. Some areas northeast and northwest of Nashville could see close to an inch of accumulation.

Others will get a light dusting, especially on grassy areas.

Precipitation is expected to shut off after midnight.

The biggest impact is expected to be a dangerous wind chill numbers Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will likely be in the single digits during the early morning hours.

More sunshine will be expected for Tuesday and less wind, but the temperature barely hits freezing for highs.

Another cold start Wednesday with temperatures starting in the teens, but no more rain.
