A new survey found out how long the average sermon was in different Christian churches. The median sermon length in the Pew study was 37 minutes. As it turns out, Catholic sermons were the shortest averaging just 14 minutes. Protestant sermons lasted 25 minutes and Evangelical Protestant messages were 39 minutes. The longest was traditionally African-American Protestant services which average 54 minutes! Pew found that sermons at black churches had roughly the same amount of words as regular Protestant sermons, but because of pauses for praise and musical interludes, they last way longer.
