TN Tech student undergoing testing for possible coronavirus infection


COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) -- A student at Tennessee Tech University is being tested for possible infection with coronavirus, school officials tell FOX 17 News.

According to the university, health providers quickly recognized that the student met the criteria for coronavirusdue to mild symptoms and his recent travel history, but theillness has not been confirmed.

The student is under isolation while precautionary testing is being conducted. As this happens, the university says they continue to stay in close communication with the Tennessee Department of Health.

"The Tennessee Department of Health advises that while we await test results, there are no specific actions other individuals need to take," a Tennessee Tech representative said.

The Centers for Disease and Control and Preventionis monitoring the outbreak of the respiratory illness caused by coronavirus. It was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and continues to expand, the CDC reports.

China has seen 830 cases so far, with 25 deaths due to the illness.

Thefirst case in the United Stateswas announced Tuesday. coronavirus wasconfirmed in a patient from Washingtonwho returned to the United States from Wuhan on Jan. 15.
