Celebrating Black History Month in Nashville

February 1st marks the beginning of Black History Month.

If you're looking for a way to celebrate in Nashville - below are some options.

The brand-new National Museum of African American Music is now open to the public at the Fifth + Broadway development in downtown Nashville.

You can also take a Black History month Tour at the Tennessee State Museum in Germantown.

Or learn more about the contributions of black scientists at the Adventure Science Center.

Folks can join Fort Negley Park staff for a guided tour focusing on the site’s rich African American heritage. It’s a 1-mile walking tour that will include discussions on why enslaved, free, and self-emancipated people came to Saint Cloud Hill and how their contributions to the war effort directly impacted the creation of United States Colored Regiments, the Confederacy’s defeat, and the end of the slavery system. It will last about one and a half hours. Due to COVID-19, tours are limited to 8 people and registration is required. Email fortnegley@nashville.gov.
