NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Nashville spent the weekend honoring the late U.S. Representative John Lewis who died one year ago today .
People gathered Saturday at the historic Ryman Auditorium for a postponed celebration of life for Lewis due to the pandemic. FOX 17's Harriet Wallace lead the welcome, while attendees listened to remarks from speakers like Nancy Pelosi (recorded), Mayor John cooper and State Senator Brenda Gilmore.
Lewis is best known for his iconic role in the civil rights movement, both nationwide and here in Nashville.
Other events held in Lewis' honor included a Saturday march and unveiling of Rep. John Lewis Way.
