Taco Bell today is testing a new proprietary plant-based protein in Alabama for a limited time. The Crispy Melt Taco features a freshly fried white corn shell tortilla with layers of warm nacho cheese sauce and a three cheese blend of cheddar, mozzarella, and Monterey pepper jack, plus your choice of plant-based protein or real seasoned beef. The taco is topped with crispy lettuce, more cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes and reduced-fat sour cream. The “boldly seasoned” plant-based protein features a soy and pea protein proprietary blend, inspired by classic Taco Bell flavors. The protein is certified vegan by the American Vegetarian Association.
