Over the weekend, “Get Out” director Jordan Peele quietly made history when he became the first African-American writer-director to earn $100 million with his debut movie, "Get Out", in just three weeks!
The racially-charged horror film, which has been receiving unanimous acclaim from critics and cinemagoers alike, has undoubtedly captured the zeitgeist seeing its modest budget of $4.5 million reach nine figures after just three weeks and with a largely unknown cast.
The film was only expected to make about $24 million it's opening weekend and then drop off after which, as most horror films usually do. Instead, "Get Out" went above and beyond that expectation bringing in $34 million it's opening weekend! Although it dropped down the following weekend, it still brought in a whopping $28 million in week two!
Not to mention he's also created a new viral trend, the #getoutchallenge..heard of it? From the movie. :)
Congrats to Jordan Peele for making history!
