Trump Signs Executive Order Prioritizing Job Skills Over College Degree

President Trump Participates In American Workforce Policy Advisory Board Meeting At The White House

A college degree will no longer give Americans the upper hand when seeking some jobs in the government. President Trump signed an executive order which will overhaul federal hiring practices and give priority to applicants with skills over those with high education levels.

The federal government is the nation’s largest employer with 2.1 million civilian workers. The new hiring process will recognize the value of learning regardless of where it occurs. Ivanka Trump, the co-chair of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board, recommended these new practices, saying the government will lead by example as it tries to recruit and retain the best and the brightest workers. The government is not eliminating the college requirement entirely but instead will stress skills in jobs where having a degree is less important. Two-thirds of Americans do not have a college degree.
