Marvin Gaye Concert Will Soon Be Available on Vinyl

marvin

It was May 1972 when Marvin Gaye graced the Kennedy Center stage in Washington D.C. to commemorate "Marvin Gaye Day."

The concert was a once-in-life-time opportunity to enjoy the late legend perform his entire What's Going On album. At the time, he was in the midst of a hiatus due to "acute stage fright" after the death of singing partner, Tammi Terrell. It was a special moment for everyone who missed the smooth cooing of Marvin's tone. Luckily for today's Gaye fans who weren't around for that momentous occasion, the show was filmed and stashed away for decades. Now, we can all look forward to listening to the freshly revamped project courtesy of Motown/UMe.

John Morales took on mixing, as Alex Abrash mastered the vinyl version set to debut October 18th. Yahoo Finance explained the package will include "black 2LP and limited turquoise 2LP editions with deluxe gatefold packaging, in addition to CD and standard digital, ADM (Apple Digital Masters), and 96kHz/24-bit HD digital audio editions." Still not enough? Treasures like rare pictures of Marvin's performance and liner notes by his biographer, David Ritz, will be "all you need to get by."
