The Strawberry Letter: Why Can’t I Say Another Man Is Blessed

Dear Steve and Shirley,

I'm 63 and I've been married for a year. I've known my husband for about 30 years, and we dated off and on for many years before deciding to make it official. This is the first marriage for us both, so we're very set in our ways. I remembered my husband as open-minded and fun-loving, but he's changed since the wedding.

He knows that I love music and concerts. He has taken me to at least 20 concerts, and he loves how I sing all of the songs and dance the entire time. That was the old him, and I'm wondering why he switched up his personality on me.

I mentioned that I wanted to go to a Chris Brown concert after my nieces went and said Chris is a total vibe in concert. My husband said my nieces and I are too old to go stare at Chris on stage. I thought he was joking around, and I said that's exactly why I want to go to the concert. My husband said I must be crazy if I think he's going to a concert to see a man hunch the stage the whole time. He had a very serious tone in his voice, so I rolled my eyes at him and changed the subject.

Later, I was talking to my sister, who just turned 60, and she said she'd go to the show with me. I mentioned how blessed Chris looked in his videos from the concert. I didn't know my husband was eavesdropping until he stomped into the room and said, "I know you all are not talking about how blessed another man is." My sister started laughing at him, so I got off the phone real quick.

Seriously, how can my 65-year-old husband be threatened by a young superstar? Why has he changed since our wedding?
